| My partner and I are here to debate on stem-cell research. We know that stem cell research shouldn’t be legal. In my speech today you will hear many important reasons why it should change. Stem cell research began in the mid 1800’s with the discovery that some cells could generate other cells. It has slowly advanced since then. Scientists are looking for cells that could be the building blocks leading to the regeneration of tissue for damaged and malfunctioning organs. Scientists have been working with animal embryonic stem cells for two decades, that is 20 years of work, and none of it has lead directly to human therapies. Stem cell research shows some signs of success, but there are so many hurdles to get research into actually working treatments that people can use. Kristian M. Mineau, President of Massachusetts family Institute said, “unfortunately embryonic stem cell research has captured the public imagination as a panacea for a myriad of diseases and debilitating medical conditions including Parkinson’s disease, juvenile diabetes leukemia, and sickle cell anemia, just to name a few… Embryonic stem cell research has yet to successfully treat even one disease. It has taken over 20 years to work on stem cell research and they have done hardly anything. They keep finding ways to mess up and ways to keel the Embryos. There are 3 things you can do with the Embryo after it is taken out. The 1st being discard it, and then you don’t have to worry about anything happening to it. The 2nd is to donate it to another family that in return could possibly have a child. The last way is to donate it to research. Although all you are doing there is killing it off. You are killing a life “an Embryo contains the potential to form a human, therefore it should have the rights and be valued as a human. The Embryo is taken out during the Blastocyst stage, which is approximately 4-5 days old. It has anywhere from 100-150 cells. Which is a living organism, considering there are single celled organisms that we say are alive. Then how can we say an Embryo with 100-150 cells is not a living human? WE CAN”T. Dr Russell Robertson a Former associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine At the Medical College of Wisconsin says “otheres including myself believe that human life even at its most immature stage, should not be scavenged for the purposes of medical research and that to a degree the lack of regulation and public scrutiny of the infertility industry is the real reason both :opportunity” and controversy.” So as you can tell no matter how old the embryo is, it is a human life that you are sacrificing for research that seems to be going no where at all. | | |
| listen to me, I know that its scary as hell to let another person touch that part of you, but if you do, it's worth it. the most memorable people in life will be the people who loved you when you were not very loveable and since I've been with you, I don't even need mirrors anymore because when you tell me I'm beautiful, I don't care who else thinks I am. You jump, I jump, remember? I can't turn away not knowing you're okay. ily him... i always have since i meet him.. and i will forever and ever babe x3michelle | | |
